From Berklee to Jazz Dock Prague: Waking Vision brings music that speaks to the soul.
Waking Vision was formed in the year 2000 at Berklee College of Music in Boston by guitarist/songwriter John Shannon and drummer Martin Valihora, who shared a goal of playing improvised music with a wide sonic vista, high energy, and a connection to nature. After Valihora put together a tour in his native country of Slovakia, the band embarked on their first tour and recorded their debut album, The Ancient Bloom, in Trnava, Slovakia. The album was released to critical acclaim and spread like wildfire among the young musician community at the time. They continued to tour throughout the years, making two more recordings: Into the High Selva (2003) and Of the Waking Vision (2007). In 2023, they came back together with upright bassist Peter Slavov (Joe Lovato, Paul Winter) to record their 4th album, The Breathing Earth, released in the summer of 2023, which All About Jazz calls “A rich tapestry of sound” and Popular. Sk said, “…music that speaks directly to the soul because that’s where it comes from”.
