Jazz Dock Orchestra - modern big band
At its February concert, the Jazz Dock Orchestra will be joined by guest vocalist Veronika Vítová in a new program dedicated to the music of the legendary Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim. Original arrangements by the orchestra’s artistic director Andy Schofield will present both Jobim’s most famous compositions and lesser-known gems from his extensive repertoire. Antônio
Carlos Jobim is regarded as one of the most influential figures in 20th-century music and a leading architect of bossa nova, a style that profoundly shaped modern jazz and popular music worldwide. His compositions, renowned for their subtle lyricism, rich harmonic language, and unmistakable poetic quality, have become jazz standards performed by the world’s greatest musicians. The programme will also include music by Bill Evans and other composers, preserving the Latin American character of the evening while offering ample space for Veronika’s dynamic vocal expression—not only as a soloist, but also as an integral part of the orchestra.
The Jazz Dock Orchestra presents original new works by one of its musical directors, Andy Schofield, alongside a classic repertoire by the great composer/arranger Thad Jones, who began the long tradition of Monday night big bands at New York's Village Vanguard in 1966.
You can enjoy works by Duke Ellington, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Gill Evans etc. as well as their own repertoire consisting of the best comopositions of the current Czech and international authors.
