The Spanish Synagogue in Prague is one of the most beautiful synagogues in Europe
The synagogue got its name from the Moorish style, in which it was in 1868 built on the site of the original synagogue – so called Altschul - from the 12th century. Exotic style, inspired by famous Alhambra, emphasized the reformist character of the new synagogue, which belonged to German-speaking reform Jews.
The building was designed by Josef Niklas and Jan Bělský, the remarkable interior by Antonín Baum and Bedřich Münzberger. František Škroup, the composer of the Czech national anthem, served as organist here in 1836-45 (i. e. still in Altshul). The synagogue now belongs to the Prague´s Jewish Museum, it houses part of the exhibition, and popular concerts of classical and sacred music often take place here.
How to get there:
- Accessibility by public transport:
metro A (green line) - Staroměstská station
tram - Právnická fakulta stop - Nearest car parking:
Rudolfinum Parking, Alšovo nábřeží, Prague 1

Very nice concert music selection!! Amazing venue!! Since it was located in the synagogue, I would play at least one Jewish theme music, like score from Schindler list movie .

Très bonne acoustique pour un concert avec violons, violoncelle, contre basse, trompette et soprano (les deux derniers par intermittence). Large panel d’époques musicales et styles. Je recommande car la sinagogue est très jolie à l’intérieur

This was our second time attending a concert in the Spanish Synagogue, a fantastic venue and a wonderful recital with very accomplished musicians. We hope to return sometime.

My only complaint is the use of cell phones to film or record the concerts. I feel that while the music is being performed phones should be shut off as the phone screens are very distracting. I feel that an announcement to this regard should be made before the performance.

Excellent musicians, interesting instrumentation, unfortunately the hall is too reverberant. The instrumentation for some works was not quite sufficient.
