Embark on a journey through three centuries of music – from the Baroque and Romantic eras to the 20th century

The program features two of Beethoven’s late piano sonatas, considered among the deepest and most moving works ever written for the instrument. Between them, we hear expressive miniatures: a lyrical prelude by Chopin, three vivid character pieces by Shostakovich, and beloved spiritual melodies by Johann Sebastian Bach – including the well-known “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.” The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Sonata in C minor, Op. 111 – a powerful and transcendent work often seen as his musical farewell to the world.

This concert is perfect for classical music lovers and for anyone seeking a moving and memorable musical experience.

About the soloist:

Pianist James Lisney made a debut in 1986 and since then he has been performing in many of the world`s most important venues.

His repertoire ranges from Baroque to music of the present day. In the past decade, the music of Schubert has been a central pre-occupation (in performance and in recordings) and he regularly presents cycles of the piano sonatas and miscellaneous works.

His recordings – of music ranging from Schubert, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky to Beach, Bjornsson and Scharwenka – have gained recognition form colleagues and plaudits from the recording industry.

Classical music concerts in Rudolfinum are truly an unforgettable experience

Rudolfinum is the most famous concert building in Prague and the seat of the Czech Philharmonic. Its two concert halls stage the most prominent concerts such as the Prague Spring Festival.The elegant Neo-Renaissance building of Rudolfinum was built between 1876-1884 by Česká Spořitelna (Czech Savings Bank) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its foundation.

The bulding was conceived as a multipurpose cultural center with a concert hall and exhibition halls. The building was taken under the patronage of the heir of the Habsburg throne, the archduke Rudolph after whom the building was named. Between 1919 and 1941 Rudolfinum served temporarily as an assembly hall of Czech Parliament.

Since then it has functioned as a concert hall, exhibition space, and a seat of the Czech Philharmonic. The intimate Suk Hall with excellent acoustics hosts chamber classical concerts, such as string quartets or piano recitals. Festive atmosphere and great concerts held in Rudolfinum will not let you forget this exceptional space.

James is a master of the piano, who is able to take the audience on a beautiful journey. Highly recommend..an experience in one's life to be cherished.
