A monastery Baroque church next to Charles Bridge with long tradition of organ concerts
The Church of St. Francis of Assisi from 1688 belonging to the Order of the Red Cross is an exceptional work of a Burgundy architect Jean Baptiste Mathey. Inconspicuous from outside, the church is in fact very important part of the Old Town skyline.
In Baroque times, this building inspired by the contemporary Roman architecture came across in Prague as a revelation and became a model for many contemporary architects. Interior decorations stand out by their sophistication dominated by a fresco of the Last Judgement by the famous Prague Baroque painter Václav Vavřinec Reiner.
St. Francis Church houses the second oldest organ in Prague played by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonín Dvořák and other famous musial personalities. Nowadays classical and organ concerts are held at St. Francis of Assisi church. Organ concerts at Knights of the Cross are drafted as one hour long coherent programmes.
Besides compositions of world known masters of Baroque and Classicism you can hear music of Czech authors. Popular dramaturgy (which is, however, artistically valuable) completes rich sound of organ and its combination with solo instruments or vocal, so listener is always surprised by new colours and sound variations. Usually three artists perform at the concerts – soloists of our prominent opera and orchestra ensembles, pedagogues of the Academy of Music and Prague conservatory.

Wonderful surroundings, beautiful sounds. Both solits were excellent.

This was a memorable treat. The venue is wonderful with excellent acoustics, a superb organ and the musical programme was varied and delightful. The soprano and the tenor sang in perfect harmony. Top quality entertainment for a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Both music and church absolutely stunning

We could not finish the concert because my wife had a medical emergency. Something in the church environment caused her a breathing problem, and we had to abruptly leave after only 3 or 4 of the pieces performed. An ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital. Although we could not completely attend the concert, I wanted to commend the staff on how well they took care of my wife. They were kind and considerate, and handled the entire event professionally under difficult circumstances.

Vstřícný přístup, organizačně velmi dobře zvládnuté a kulturní zážitek vynikající.

Skvělé prostředí, lahodný zvuk. Jen ty varhany mohly být hutnější, výraznější, dominantnější. Soprán není lahodíci mému uchu. Výběr skladeb mohl být lepší.

Lovely concert. All of the performers were excellent, and the material was well chosen. Bravo!

Wonderful

This program was a challenging one, combining soprano, trumpet and organ. In the pieces for organ and for trumpet with organ, the playing was convincing and enjoyable. In the pieces for soprano and organ, the accompaniment occasionally drowned out the soloist, and in the pieces with all three performers, the soprano was completely overwhelmed. It's extremely difficult to balance such performers in a live setting, and that balance was not achieved -- perhaps not achievable -- here. I give the soprano high marks for trying, but she had no chance against an un-muted trumpet combined with the organ. Were it not for this unfortunate choice of programming, my rating would be "very good".

This was a really beautiful concert. It was extremely well organised and great value for money, in my opinion. It was an inspiring and uplifting way to start our final evening in Prague.

Výborná organizace, krásný interiér i akustika, výborní účinkující. Jen program byl úplně jiný než byl uveden na webu, ale zážitek moc hezký.

Quelle bonne surprise, à l'organiste se sont ajoutés une violoniste et une mezzo, trois interprètes d'excellente qualité. Merci !

Quite disappointing. This is advertised as an organ concert, but is actually an organ, soprano and trumpet concert. The three organ solo pieces were excellent. The trumpet arias were OK, but the acoustics that work so well for organ simply don't work as well for brass. And the two instruments weren't always in tune. The soprano simply didn't have the gravitas for the venue. The organ and the church usually swallowed her voice entirely. It didn't help that she sang into her sheet music rather than out to the audience.

Es war ein sehr schönes Konzert in einer sehr schönen Barockkirche. Für das, was geboten wurde, war der Preis sehr günstig. Herzlichen Dank an die musizierenden Damen.
