David Dorůžka/Robert Fischmann/Martin Novák
The trio of guitarist Davida Dorůžka, flutist/singer Robert Fischmann and percussionist/drummer Martin Novák was formed at the end of 2020 with the goal of bridging jazz improvisation and world music, developing the traditions of music of the Middle East as well as music of Jewish origin from different regions of Europe.
The trio released its debut album Gilgul ("cycle" in Hebrew) in September 2023 on the Animal Music label and the CD immediately attracted enthusiastic response from audiences and critics alike. It was named Album of the Year by both the Czech Music Academy (Ceny Anděl Awards) in the jazz category and by the Czech Radio in its poll Česká jazzová sklizeň (Czech Jazz Harvest). It placed on the 7th position of World Music Charts Europe and was nominated for the Deutschen Schallplattenkritik award.
The group stands out due to its innovative approach and unusual instrumentation as well as the courage to take great liberties in incorporating elements of traditional music into soundscapes of today's musical world.
