Antalogia, a selection of the best scenes from the first black light theatre in the world, makes a truly mesmerizing night
Enjoy the performance in the famous Jazz Club Reduta - Theatre located in the very centre of Prague.
The best scenes from original Prague Black Light Theatre of Jiří Srnec will take you back to the world of inexhaustible fantasy and imagination. The audience is guided through the 51-year history of Srnec Theatre. You may see, for instance, the oldest black light theatre scene „Launderette“ that had been created two years prior to the official foundation of the Srnec Theatre.
The scene „Magician“ allows the invisible performers to show their mastery. The objects appear, change, and vanish again. You will get surprised and fascinated. The nearly human behaviour of the four-legged friend of a Western bartender in the scene „Horse“ will make you laugh heartily.
„The experience with the international audience has shown that each thing the human has invented and made may contain humour that may be understood by anybody. The convincingness of the objects coming to life is given by the manipulator’s acting mastery. The critics from all the continents appreciated the invisible actors who made the audience laugh or think by means of the objects. The silent movie era, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin – these masters are still being admired. Laughter, or smile at least, is needed more now – in the over-engineered period of too many words and few good deeds – than before. “ Jiří Srnec.

Reduta Theatre had its first performance in 1957 and ever since it features various productions
Nowdays you can enjoy the black light theatre show, the first of its kind in the world, Antologia - The Best of Black Light Theatre. The show was in Reduta twenty years ago and it has come back!
Reduta Theatre - history:
The first theatrical performances in 1957 were so-called text-appeals. Those were elements of literary cabaret, which had to appeal the audience through music and words. The creators were Jiří Suchý and Ivan Vyskočil. The performances had great success. Suchý and Vyskočil led dialogue with the audience on issues that official culture did not have the answers to. One year later was Vyskočil’s theatre Na zábradlí and Suchý’s Semafor established. The tradition of Text-appeals continued with the ensemble Paravan with J.R. Pick. Little theater Paravan was a literary cabaret with the ambition of intellectual humor. The famous Sláva Kunst orchestra provided the music.
Ivan Vyskočil’s Nedivadlo arises in the 60’s but after the normalization in the year 1970 Vyskočil had to leave the Reduta. The name of the theatre sort of predetermined deliberate refusion of theatrical conventions; it was a beginning of alternative theatre, in that time absolute revelation and hope for the future.
Under the command of the, at the time, monopoly Pragokoncert, it led to stagnation and unsatisfied dramaturgy. They were switching various theatre styles, which were entirely unrelated to its original genre. However, there were exceptions such as Divadlo Járy Cimrmana or some excellent pantomimes (Rudolf Papežík, Ctibor Turba etc.). Great was the Alfred Jarry’s Pantomime. The nonconformist performances, inspired by absurd theatre, surrealism and jazz with the main representatives Hybner, Rýda and Turba were suppressed in the year 1972 by the normalizers.
Several other excellent and creative groupings found their temporary home in the Reduta, such as Divadlo Járy Cimrmana; very successful with their performance were O. Kaiser and J. Lábus.
After the Velvet revolution a new way has opened for free dramaturgy of the Reduta theatre, which uses new projects and productions of known and emerging artists.

Black light effects were good. Humor was a little childish, but I understand that this has to be understood by anyone no matter their age or language they speak.

Jennifer Smith | December 30, 2024 | 20:00 (Mon)
The show was more like a slapstick comedy show with black light effects. Not a true black light show. Very low budget feel.
Federico Mikaelian | December 26, 2024 | 18:00 (Thu)
Amazing show, and really fun for kids as well!
Ankur Goyal | December 21, 2024 | 20:00 (Sat)
Very interesting show by a very talented and skillful group of performers. It has humour as well. It would be great if they can add a final act where they can show in normal light how it's done. It would be inspirational.

Galatia Sazeidou | December 13, 2024 | 20:00 (Fri)
It was very enjoyable and well acted. Reminiscent of old silent movies. I would gladly go again to this show and recommend it to others.

Sehr originelle und professionelle Darbietung.

This show would work well for families with children, but although some of the performers appeared to have promise, the sketches lacked the vitality and professional quality to satisfy adults. We left at the intermission.
Elda Di Risio | March 31, 2024 | 20:00 (Sun)
Service was excellent from on line booking to tickets validation. The show was amazing in a very intimate venue. Actors interact with public and this is special. I loved my experience!

incredibly, inspiring and precisely executed. 💞 Very recommended.
Fintan O'Toole | October 19, 2023 | 20:00 (Thu)
Light hearted fun in a compact welcoming setting. The cast engage with the audience and the quality of their performance is very good. Good to leave somewhere with a smile and a warm glow - thank you.

We were surprised with the outstanding quality of the presentation, but uncomfortable with the ventilation and temperature of the venue. It needs improvement!!!
Edith Mary | May 24, 2023 | 20:00 (Wed)
Ce n’est pas le meilleur du théâtre noir. Des passages pour occuper le temps: puérils et sans intérêt.
DOMINIQUE DUBOIS | May 22, 2023 | 20:00 (Mon)

Busoniu Lucian | January 28, 2023 | 20:00 (Sat)
Interesting form of theater, a bit "gimmicky". Should be seen once.
Kirsten Olson | December 27, 2022 | 20:00 (Tue)
Content was not presented in a top-notch professional way. We could see the accompanists is the background. A few of the acts dragged on.
julio de almeida | October 28, 2022 | 20:00 (Fri)
Très bien l idée de sketchs. Mais cela reste des histoires très simple. Un peu d ambition dans la trame et dans le message serait le bienvenu.
Alfredo Saloma | August 13, 2022 | 20:00 (Sat)
Very nice event. Small theatre but very good performances. I loved Antologia!
CHRISTOFOROS CHRISTAKIS | June 13, 2022 | 20:00 (Mon)
It's not excellent because the last 2 parts were long, which made the viewer to lose focus..
Reginald Harden | May 21, 2022 | 20:00 (Sat)
Fabulous show , would recommend it to all people for all ages .
Nelson Feldman | May 20, 2022 | 20:00 (Fri)
Des spectateurs hollandais ivres et arrivés en retard ont perturbés le déroulement de la pièce de theatre. L'accès à la salle aurait dû leur être interdit ! Ils sont partis à la pause et nombreux spectateurs aussi...
Francoise Brice | April 18, 2022 | 20:00 (Mon)
Tableaux amusants et/ou poétiques mais pas tous égaux. Entre mime et cinéma muet. Belle surprise.

Michael Guittaut | August 19, 2021 | 20:00 (Thu)
This show is wonderful and so much different from everything I had seen before. It's funny, romantic, sad and poetic altogether. Thea actors are wonderful and the fact it is in a small theater is even better because you are really close from the stage and you are part of the show itself. A must seen in Praha.

Luís Miguel Lopes | July 17, 2019 | 20:00 (Wed)
A very good way to get to know this form of art and performance. The performers were all great. The show had a good rhythm and at times with some humorous interaction with the spectators. It was great to have the opportunity to meet Mr. Srnec, a very kind and interesting gentleman. From the conversation the we had it was obvious the passion that he (still) has for his creation and the joy he has sharing it with others. Probably there are more modern shows in Prague but it was a very good experience to go to where everything started 50 years ago.
Patrick Hecking | July 08, 2019 | 20:00 (Mon)
A great performance - very skilled artists - unlike any other theatre performances - absolutely worth a visit
RALPH PAEZ | April 11, 2019 | 20:00 (Thu)

Agnes Pannetier | April 10, 2019 | 18:00 (Wed)
Un peu désuet

A nice evening of Black Light Theatre. It was a fun night, enjoyed the funny "sketches" and use of black light combined with actors.
Despoina Kiltsopoulou | March 07, 2019 | 20:00 (Thu)
Dissapointed.
An Yee Low | February 10, 2019 | 20:00 (Sun)
a little too slapstick for me but enjoyable :) some of them felt a little dated (e.g. women seemed to be mostly just love interests!)

It was very entertaining, although some of the jokes belong to pre-1986 era for sure. Time passed pleasantly and quickly.
Sarah Mornet | July 25, 2018 | 20:00 (Wed)
Spectacle original, poétique, bien réalisé mais dommage que parfois on voit les acteurs en noir agir...
Florence Demonclin | June 21, 2018 | 20:00 (Thu)
Très joli spectacle à la fois poétique et comique qui fait passer une bonne soirée
Martine Regenwetter | May 19, 2018 | 20:00 (Sat)
We really loved it ! we appreciated the effort behind it; only the "story" with the suitcases was technically interesting and most probably difficult - even if the message behind is worthwhile eg that extreme competition might destroy you - the scene had some length …. We loved the first sketch most (little socks …) continue like that ! Thank you Martine Regenwetter Luxembourg and friends
Tamar Ben Arie | May 19, 2018 | 20:00 (Sat)
We were more than disappointed about the low level of the event. The place was hot and without any air . The performers gave you a feeling that the audience was made of children, first grade school. The themes were silly and meaningless. We had no idea what to expect from the black theatre, but surely not what was presented.
Aditya Kanoria | May 15, 2018 | 20:00 (Tue)
outstanding performance not to be missed
Peter Carter | January 25, 2018 | 20:00 (Thu)
An enjoyable introduction to Black Light Theatre. A must for every visitor to Prague if they haven't seen Black Light Theatre before.
Yasmina Rios | December 09, 2017 | 20:00 (Sat)
Fantastic experience at the Black Light Theatre! I really enjoyed the event - fascinating staging, very professional actors engaging with the public and found out the performance to be creative, fun and every aspect of it taken care of. I'm very glad I did this during my stay in Prague and will be recommending it to friends and family. Well done!!!

I loved it! Actors are amazing and the whole show is very good. It's composed of short scenes, all of which are pretty fun. A good intro to black theater in an independent venue in the heart of Prague.
Alexander Smekhov | August 27, 2017 | 20:00 (Sun)
Very funny and imaginative suitable for kids and adults alike.
alan goldschmidt | July 25, 2017 | 20:00 (Tue)
Good show. Very entertaining. 7 actors, all under 25. Probably closer to 20. Very talented. Glad we had an opportunity to see it while in Prague.
Olga Baird | July 25, 2017 | 20:00 (Tue)
My daughter and granddaughter visited me from the USA and wanted to see a Black Theatre performance. I myself haven't seen it yet, so we decided for the 'Antologia'. We all enjoyed the performance. It was lovely, funny, lighthearted. Good team of young actors. Many thanks to all of them.
Alessandro Sartori | April 30, 2017 | 20:00 (Sun)
amazing experience, definitely worth to be there! You can't go to Prague and miss this unique show. Consigliato a tutti gli italiani come me, vi piacerà tantissimo!!!
