This evening welcomes us to the tranquil surroundings of the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia
where the sounds of wind instruments will blend with the depth of the visual arts. Our attention will be drawn to Ferdinand Engelmüller’s painting *Cemetery with Cypresses*, whose tranquillity and melancholic beauty find an echo in the colours of this evening’s programme. Ravel’s *Tombeau de Couperin*, conceived as a tribute to friends who fell in the First World War, resonates strongly with the solemn mood of Engelmüller’s canvas. Here, the music does not merely replicate the painting, but harmonises with it in its quest for melancholy and hope.
