The second largest spa city (after Karlovy Vary) is located in the North Bohemian region between Krušné hory (northwest) and České středohoří (southeast). The legends say the thermal springs were discovered in the 8th century but the proper mention is dated to the 16th century.
The Little Paris (as it used to be called) was frequently visited by big names such as Ludwig van Beethowen or Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Interestingly, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who had never visited Teplice, has the most important statue here.
The Baroque castle attracting travellers from all around the globe is dedicated to the world famous seducer, writer... Giacomo Casanova who worked there as a librarian and spent last 13 years of his life there.
The chateau was founded in the 13th century but re-built into Renaissance, then Baroque and Classicist chateau. The history of the castle is closely connected with the Wallenstein family who lived there from 1642 until 1921.
