Baroque St. Havel Church was once an important spiritual centre of Prague Old Town
St. Havel Church was founded in the 13th century as a spiritual centre of so called Havel Town, founded by king Wenceslas II. The church is named after St. Havel (originally Gallon, in latin Gallus), an Irish abbot, missionary and the founder of the famous St. Gallen Monastery in Switzerland. The church was rebuilt and redecorated in Baroque style. The Holy Cross Chapel holds one of the jewels of Baroque sculpure, the expressive sculptural group of Calvary by F. M. Brokoff. St. Havel Church organizes infrequent yet delightful concerts of classical music.
