A popular holiday and residential destination with Nižbor glassworks
Little village surrounded by woods is a well hidden gem for hiking lovers. It is located in the Křivoklát hills, in the valley of river Berounka.
Nižbor Castle
Founded in mid-13th century by the Přemyslid dynasty. It served as an administrative centre of the region. In the 17th century, the Castle turned into the Baroque residence of The Wallenstein family. Century later, the property owner changed through marriage.
The new owners, Fuerstenberg family, owned the castle until 1920s. During the communist regime, the castle fell into disrepair due to lack of maintenance. After the end of the communism, the castle has been gradually restored.
When visiting, you will have a chance to admire some spectacular views of the woods and the river. In summer period, the Castle houses the Celtic Culture Centre. The exhibition and multimedia project taking place show the historical movement of Celtic people across Europe.

Nižbor pub - Zastávka Nižbor
This lovely restaurant/pub/pension is our personal tip. Originally an old station warehouse built in the 19th century has been changed into the original railway station pub. You can choose from seats at one of the coupes as well as on the ramp load or watch the sunset at the station platform. You can also stay over in a coupe (We think its the best to book early though).
