The splendid Spanish Hall at Prague Castle was built in the 16th century by Emperor Rudolph II.
The Spanish Hall is the largest ceremonial space at Prague Castle and one of the most beautiful of its halls. It was founded in the 16th century for Emperor Rudolf II who had his collection of sculptures there but completed only in the mid-17th century. The hall got its name after the Spanish horse's stables that used to be below it.
Its size is impressive: 43 meters long, 21 meters wide, and 12 meters high. When the Spanish king Philip II. visited Prague, he honored Rudolph II. with the Spanish Golden fleece decoration. A model of the decoration is exposed on the window in the Spanish Hall. Spanish Hall is nowadays used for ceremonial gatherings, large receptions of the President of the Republic, or festive classical concerts.
