One of the oldest monasteries in the Czech Republic is located by the St. James Basilica near the Old Town Square in Prague
Visit the recently opened entire Minorite monastery, which aims to become a center for cultural and social events. Walk in the premises where history was made. Close your eyes and travel back in time. Let the atmosphere of the place transport you back into medieval times. Before or after your tour, take a sip of a delicious tea or coffee at the monastery's café (not included in the ticket price). You can either sit inside the café or in the Hortus Angelicus Garden, where you can let the tranquil atmosphere work its magic on you.
Visit the St. James Basilica interiors and stand in awe in front of the Czech Republic's largest organ. Admire the frescos, altar, and the Baroque paintings.
Many historically significant moments have taken place in the Minorite monastery over the past 800 years—the winter refectory hosted the wedding banquet of John of Luxembourg and Elizabeth of Bohemia. In the second winter refectory, the Hall of Eliška Přemyslovna, the monastery thanked the butchers' guild for saving the monastery (St. James is the patron saint of butchers). The summer refectory on the first floor, which is the largest hall among European monasteries, was the College of St. Bonaventure, but also the mother of the emerging National Museum in 1818. The emperor Charles IV also stayed here.
