Czech cellist and songwriter performs songs from her new album, released this October
On her third solo album, cellist and original songwriter Dorota Barová set to music the poems of Michaela Vejnarová — a visual artist, poet, and musician with whom she shared a long-standing friendship. “When I got hold of her notebooks full of sketches and texts, the idea for an album emerged — one that would feature not only her poems set to music, but also her artwork. I selected seven poems that reflect her inner, dreamlike world and her gentle mischievousness. The album is named after the song of the same title, which is my remembrance of Mi and the only one sung in Polish,” says Dorota Barová. At the concert, in addition to regular members Miroslav Chyška and Miloš Klápště, Jan Krejča will perform on the Baroque lute theorbo, and Alžběta Vlčková on cello.
Dorota Barová is a well known and respected Czech singer and cello player with a distinctive voice and sound singing mainly in Polish. She released her first solo album Iluzja (Illusion, 2018) which received Czech Music Academy Award Anděl and also Jantar Award. Dorota recorded it with two outstanding Czech musicians - the guitarist Miroslav Chyška (Illustratosphere, JAR, Die El.Eleffant!) and the bassist Miloš Klápště (Marz, Tryptych, Aneta Langerová etc.). All of Dorota´s lyrics are in Polish, and they are mostly her own original compositions and lyrics. In 2021 she released her second CD called Dotyk.
