The music of two leading figures of the late Romantic era in the Municipal House

Although Antonín Dvořák and César Franck came from different cultural backgrounds and expressed themselves through distinct musical languages, their work is united by a deep emotional quality, rich harmony, and striking melodic beauty. The Second Subscription Concert features two iconic works of this period: Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor, which is considered one of the masterpieces of the cello repertoire, and Franck’s Symphony in D minor. This symphony is the only symphony Franck ever composed during his career, and it had a profound influence on subsequent generations of French composers.

  • César Franck
