Die Zauberflöte

I enjoyed the performance, and would recommend anyone to go and enjoy it. I do however have some minor niggles, and the following should be read with a grain of salt. In particular, that the lighting effects were a distraction and somewhat excessive (e.g. the pulsing of the house lights during certain scenes, and the bright strip on the stage). An opera with music and libretto of this quality can easily hold its own without such obtuse effects. Equally, the presence of the aging Mozart on the stage was, in my humble opinion overdone, though the child and child Queen at the end were touching. The orchestra were good, even if they played a little too fast for my liking (why the rush? The music's good!). The singers were generally commendable (Pamina was excellent), but the Queen of the Night really could have put more energy into her exquisite, and very well known arias. This is more obvious as, being an original Opera House, the music is un-amplified - which is a beautiful thing; but it does place more responsibility on the singers. Regardless, if you're considering going, just go. It is a wonderful opera, and even if the performance isn't perfect, you will still thoroughly enjoy it, and come out at the end grateful for what you've been a part of.

Despite some really good performances and okay sets, the director and even the conductor got in the way of a good show. Why directors feel the need to serve up something different is beyond me. Why not a carefully crafted conventional performance where the participants make us laugh or cry at appropriate moments? Instead we have the distraction of a Mozart wandering around on the stage and the house lights being turned off and on. There is ample scope for The Magic Flute to make us laugh but too many opportunities were missed. Whilst I appreciate crisp, energetic playing at appropriate moments, the conductor seemed to be in too much of a hurry to depart to the pub and often didn't allow the singers the space to complete their phrases elegantly. He needs to relax the pace a bit at appropriate moments.

Die Mozarts Zauberflöte im Ständetheater in Prag war ein Genuss und ein Erlebnis der besonderen Art. Die Inszenierung war hervorragend, nicht zu klassisch, aber auch nicht zu modern. Bühnenbild, Maske und Kostüme waren ebenfalls hervorragend. Die Künstler haben die die Oper gut umgesetzt, herauszuheben sind vor allem die Königin der Nacht (Diana Schnürpel), Pamina (Vera Talerko), Sarrastro (Daniel Matousek) und Papageno (Lukas Bafak), was aber nicht die Darstellung und gesanglichen Qualitäten des restlichen Ensembles schmälern soll. Alles in Allem war es ein Fest für Augen und Ohren. Dafür nehme ich gerne die Anfahrt von Deutschland ( Aschaffenburg) in Kauf. Meine Frau und ich waren mit Sicherheit nicht das letzte Mal im Ständetheater in Prag!

Tout était très bien ! Un seul point à revoir peut-être : les traductions de l'allemand vers le tchèque par le personnage (Mozart ?) allongeaient inutilement le spectacle.

Wonderful venue , smaller than the larger opera houses in Europe but unbelievably beautiful inside . Excellent performances in the Magic Flute and the Orchestra. Traveling from Australia, well worth the trip.

It's a MUST classical opera, very well portrayed for Czech and English - speaking people. The actors are wonderful. The only couple of recommendations I could make: do not book in the Estates Theatre a very far away seat from the scenario, since it's true that the visibility is poor (for example, in the other hand, in the National Theatre, the visibility is good even the announcement of "poor visibility") and for people who are not used to see operas: read BEFORE going there the plot of the play since it is very complicated to understand it by the play itself.

Great opera! Wonderful sopranos and actors.

Everything was wonderful. Beautiful sets and costumes, and the music was lovely. This was our first time in the Estates Theater and it is a perfect venue. We are looking forward to another performance there on Sunday.

Easily one of the strangest productions of any opera that I have ever seen before in my life. Amount of visual pollution in the production was beyond words. With every single performance being upstaged by scenery, background movement, and extras drawing attention away from what the audience should be paying attention to. I would avoid this opera at all cost. As a season subscriber, I am even more disappointed if I didn't support this company and this venue, I would have asked for a refund.

This was a superb performance of the Magic Flute - beautifully sung, inventively staged, with very fine playing from the orchestra. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

Ma 10e « Flûte «  ! La première - en 1957 ! J’ai adoré et j’ai été bouleversée par l’excellent Mozart - acteur shakespearien qui arrache les larmes d’émotions!!’ Bravo à lui ! Il remet en place le condescendant Forman dans son Amadeus ! Et évidemment à tous - musiciens et chanteurs. Bravo !

Une très belle interprétation de la flûte enchantée dans un théâtre chargé de légendes avec des décors et une mise en scène époustouflante. Je recommande vivement

Cette production a été un grand succès, une mise en scène fantasque. Bonne utilistation de l'éspace scénique, et l'orchestre et les chanteurs en pleine forme. Puis la magie de cette oeuvre est quasiment spirituelle.

Le théâtre, les musiciens, la mise en scène, les voix, les comédiens m'ont fait participer à un des plus beau spectacle de ma vie. Je rêvais de cette expérience et je n'ai pas été déçue mais enchantée.

Love the theatre. It's beautiful, historic and very well looked after. Drinks and food for the intermission very well run too, which rounded out the experience of the venue. The set design was excellent, the staging great. The performances were even better. Especially the Queen of the Night. In terms of the direction, the inclusion of the Czech narrator was a little odd, but I quite liked it :-)

I would have rated it excellent except for one thing which I'll get to later. What a superb production! Orchestra, singers, art design - perfect! One thing that really annoyed me throughout was the stupid and utterly addition of a character who is not in the libretto. His annoying interruptions of dialogue are not in the libretto. He performed stupid antics distracting from and upstaging the otherwise excellent performers. I don't know whose idea it was, but it was a very very bad idea. I like opera performances to RESPECT the composer and librettist. Not add stupid and self-indulgent elements that serve only as ego trips by the director.

The Magic Flute was beautifully staged. The theater alone is worth a visit.

Beautiful singing, music, mis en scène. The role of Mozart was well thought of. During the performance the artists became beter and beter. We enjoyed it very mocht.
