Black Light Theatre
The Savarin Palace, built in the 18th century by K. I. Dientzenhofer and A. Lurago, has an impressive history of culture, dance and music. The palace is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
Black Light Theatre of Jiří Srnec was founded in 1961 as one of then emerging avant-garde theaters and from the very beginning, it has attracted attention by remarkable artistic qualities.
Creative use of a simple trick, the so-called "black cabinet" in which actors wear black so that from the perspective of the viewer they are not seen against the black background, make the props and objects become alive.
Jiří Srnec Black Light Theatre belongs, thanks to the fresh inventiveness, distinctive poetics and sovereign mastering of the black light theatre tricks, among the best black theaters in the world.
A small place, not really a theatre feel thanks to the normal seats.
Petit théâtre très bien placé, en centre ville, avec des restaus sympas pour avant ou après le spectacle
venue very small and stuffynumbered seating would have been appreciated togetherwitha good selection of drinks and saltiesfor purchase which was missing. there wasonly very average beer and terrible wine available for purchase
A small and intimate venue - just right for the kind of performance involved. A special event for the visitor
Venue felt a bit crowded at times and difficult to see the stage depending on who you had sitting in front of you (ie tall people). Overall though I liked the size of the venue as we were all close to the stage and really helped to engage with the performance and feel part of it.
Intimate and cozy
Small, intimate theater, it gives a great experience of independent performances.
Theatre is small and quite dense.
Nothing special. Very quaint. I was told to not sit in the first 4 rows so we parked in row 5.
For us it was important to be near the Hlavni Nadrazi, as we were going to Caslav after the performance. The location was excellent for us, let alone the very city centre, and a lovely beer restaurant attached to the venue.ue
