Staroměstské nám. 27, Praha 1/Staré Město
This monumental Baroque church of St. Nicholas on Prague Old Town Square is a masterpiece created by a genius of his time Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. Completed in 1737, the church was first owned by the Catholic Church, later by the Orthodox Church and now it belongs to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church founded here in 1920.
The original design of the ceiling, frescoes (by K. D. Assam), stucco decoration (by B. Spinetti) and statues (by A. Braun) are a masterful example of the Baroque sense of dramatic effect. Completed by a splendid chandelier, donated to the Orthodox Church by Russian Tsar Alexander II. in 1880, St. Nicholas church on Old Town Square has one of the most impressive church interiors in Prague.
The front of the church was originally located at a small square called "Hen Market" and the church itself was surrounded by many other buildings, hence its strange orientation. The house right next to the church stands on the birthplace of Franz Kafka. Popular classical music concerts in St. Nicholas Church are among the most favourite ones. After the evening concert, the Old Town Square enlighted by lanterns and night lighted Church of Our Lady before Týn are an unforgetable sight!
St. Nicholas church on Old Town square is heated during the winter.
The church as such is not wheelchair accessible, as there are stairs to enter. No lift, no ramp. However, before each concert there are assistants ready to carry the wheelchair in the church.
It was just beautiful to sit in a 280 year old church and listen to the music. We talked about the concert and church the rest of the evening.
Good choice of repertoire adapted to Christmas and very well performer.
Beautiful church with good heating for winter cold.
The chairs on the side of the pews made for easier sitting.
A beautiful venue and lovely set up.
Beautiful venue and great acoustics.
Good place to attend as the venue is in the middle of Old Town
Juste la bonne taille, pas trop grand grand avec une excellente acoustique. Par contre les bancs d'église n'étaient pas très confortable. Heureusement que le concert nu durait pas trop longtemps. Je devine que les chaises étaient plus adaptées ....
The church has amazing acoustic, as all churches and you can admire the painted ceilings while listening to divine music!
Teplomety nejsou potřeba.
Magnifique église et bien entretenue
See comment above. Historically interesting, stunning church with superb accoustics.
The acoustics in St. Nicholas Church are wonderful and the musicians were fantastic. The heated pews and blankets were a nice touch.
nádherné prostředí odpovídající krásné hudbě

Such a beautiful Baroque church inside and out on such a fabulous place as Old Town Square. Magical. Seating arrangements handled very well by wonderful staff.
Compliments to all involved.
Nice atmosphere. Convenient for the front to middle seats. Not for the back seats.
Lovely church which was full to capacity. Bit chilly and too cold to take off, coat, hat and gloves...
Also, too many extra seats to sides of pew resulted in poor viewing ability and sound quality.
Charming church…thanks for heating the seats
The church creates a great atmosphere. The acoustics are excellent.
Lighting on audience too strong. Acoustics and sound quality is outstanding.
What a wonderful way to see this great Church.
The venue is excellent for this kind of concert especially the organ.
Good venue, a bit crowded
Well located, cosy and full of fresques to observe
Exceptionally beautiful church and brilliant acoustics for solo music
It's a 300 year old magnificently beautiful church. The most fantastic venue for a classical music event!
It was wonderful to take in the beauty of St. Nicholas Church and enjoy the brilliant acoustics. As church pews aren't really made for comfort, I was certainly glad the concert was short.
For the audience, being able to see the players is an added kind of enjoyment that this venue cannot provide. Additionally, the pews are very uncomfortable, especially for someone with long legs (like me). Foolishly, I passed up the normal chairs available in several rows.
Beutiful venue, heated seats and blankets avaliable during winter. We visited in march and did not freeze during the concert. Be on time - 30 min before - to grab the best seats!
Beautiful baroque church, chairs are a bit hard but the thin cushions provided helped with comfort. Even though several heaters were placed around the room, they were not enough to take the chill off so dress warmly for a winter concert.
Beautiful setting, with wonderful acoustics but be sure to pack up warm as it's a big church with little to no heating
The Vivaldi Orchestra Prague deserves all the credits for a magical night with its very skilled maestros!! Thanks also to the program chosen of famous composers and the soprano whose voice complemented the orchestra, we were in heaven!!! Thank you and please.do not stop organising these types of mini concerts!
Very beautiful church!
I had to learn that one faces the nave not the performers
St. Nicholas Church is incredible when it fills with the organ and trumpet music. The acoustics and the interior designs/decorations combine to make an unforgettable experience.
Church is beautiful!
Stunning baroque setting
Amazing acustic. Very nice.
Incredible sound, full and rich! Definitely recommended.
Beautiful church with outstanding acoustics. Smaller than expected, but not an issue. The bass from the music festival in the main square was very distracting. Not exactly the venue's fault, but keep in mind that it's central location may also lead to some unwanted background noise.
