Gems of pioneering bebop drummer Kenny Clarke: golden age of bebop in the 1940s, jazz, hardbop in the mid-1950s

This new project named after the Kenny Clarke's June 1955 album "Bohemia After Dark" focuses on his authentic performances of both classics and forgotten gems. It covers the “golden age” of bebop in the 1940s through cool jazz to the emergence of hard bop in the mid-1950s.

About pioneering bebop drummer Kenny Clarke (1914-1985):

Credited as the father of bebop - and, ultimately, modern jazz - drumming, Clarke himself became the embodiment of straight-ahead playing, instantly recognisable for the effortless swing of his ride-cymbal time patterns.

Clarke’s discography is unusually rich and diverse, as he played on hundreds of recordings (“sides”) during this period with almost all the major figures of both the swing and bop eras.

Among those featured in the project’s repertoire: Charlie Christian, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Fats Navarro, Tadd Dameron, Miles Davis, Coleman Hawkins, Milt Jackson, John Lewis, Sonny Rollins, J.J. Johnson, the Adderley Brothers, Oscar Pettiford, Kenny Burrell, Lee Konitz, Jackie McLean, Art Farmer, Donald Byrd, Kenny Dorham, Pepper Adams, Hank Mobley, Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Thad Jones, Hank Jones, Horace Silver and Tommy Flanagan.

Soloists:

Andy Schofield - alto sax
Osian Roberts - tenor sax
Libor Šmoldas - guitar
Taras Voloschuk - bass
Ben Hague - drums
Alice Bauer - vocal
