‘America’s most important quartet’ (New York Times) will deliver their first ever performance in Prague

JACK Quartet has established an impressive reputation as performers of new and avant-garde music, collaborating with Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Julia Wolfe, and many more contemporary composers, frequently performing commissioned works.

They have rightly been called ‘the go-to quartet for contemporary music,’ (Washington Post), but have also been praised for performing the work of innovative (but often underheard) composers of the 20th century.

One such case is the extraordinary Greek/French composer Iannis Xenakis, whose complete quartets JACK recorded in what many consider the definitive versions. And it is these quartets – visceral, thrilling, avant-garde – that JACK will be performing at the festival.

Iannis Xenakis (1922 – 2001) forged a new kind of music, applying principles from the worlds of architecture (Xenakis trained as an architect and worked with Le Corbusier) and natural science to his compositions to create works of tremendous power which exhibit an almost ‘alien’ quality. He was awarded the Polar Music Prize in 1999.
