Currently with the Vienna Volksoper, the Austrian soprano Hedwig Ritter has performed a number of major roles this season. She has lent her voice to characters such as Adele in Johann Strauss Jr.’s operetta Die Fledermaus, Eurydice in Jacques Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, Blonde in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio and Clorinda in Gioacchino Antonio Rossini's Cinderella. Prior to joining the Volksoper, she worked in Linz, Austria. She has portrayed the Queen of the Night in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, plus taken part in the world premiere of Der Besucher at the Bielefeld Theater in Germany. As a child she studied trumpet at the Kunstuniversität Graz and, following secondary school, went on to pursue singing lessons at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien where she took classes from Uta Schwabe. She also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Kai Wessel.
