Gabriela Vermelho will be releasing her new album Rok Ticha /Year of Silence/ (Hevhetia, 2023) on 11 May at the Jazz Dock, accompanied by the Gadrew Way String Quartet.
The third solo album is full of original folk music and consists of two parts, in the first part "Maruška" she develops a unique, poetic music based on the song collections of Pavel Popelka, while the second part of the album "Bandits for Ballad" consists of songs with lyrics by Milan Uhde.
For the album release Gabriela has arranged most of the solo songs for quartet performance, so you will have a unique opportunity to hear the album on a scale you won't hear it on audio, enriched with cello, viola and double violin. The wonderful singer, pianist and music producer Beata Hlavenková has accepted the godfatherhood of the album and may be staying on stage a little longer.
The concert evening will also be enriched by a few own songs by the Gadrew Way String Quartet of which Gabriela is the primary member. Gadrew Way's genre ranges from classical and jazz pieces, to wild Balkan melodies, to melodies inspired by Czech and Moravian folklore, with a significant component of original works by first violinist Gabriela Vermelho.
