pianist and composer Greg Burk returns to solo playing after his latest album "Clean Spring" released on SteepleChase Records in 2016. His latest album "As A River" is his twelfth and so far the most lyrical album.
Although Burk is the son of classical musicians, his musical style has evolved particularly on the Detroit jazz scene. He studied in Detroit with George Russell, Danil Perez and Paul Bley. Burk's classic-musical heritage on "As A River" is a convincing mission with deep roots in the jazz tradition based on American folk songs.
His diverse compositions flow unpredictably like a river. Even when Burk describes what was the initial impulse to record this record, it refers to inspiration in nature and its miracles. The rivers and lakes of his native Michigan were his playground when he was young.
This strong link to nature is deeply reflected not only in the last song of the album, entitled "Sequia Song", and represents a unique experience of visiting Sequoia National Park, to which it is dedicated. In "As A River", Burk demonstrates his sense of fragile melodies and striking rhythm. The songs are sophisticated improvisations with an original compositional concept.
"Burk shows stunning wealth and fascinating songs" - Jazzman

In 2015, Gall's first solo CD "Piano Solo" appeared, featuring almost exclusively original compositions, which, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, not only demonstrate his excellent technique, but also "his inexhaustible wealth of ideas, but is primarily a presentation of his unbreakable taste".
In November 2018 Chris released his second solo album "Rooms of Silence".
“Wherever you are, whatever happens around you, perhaps this album will help you open the door to your own Hall of Silence. Music can help us discover this space. ”This is the goal of the renowned German pianist Chris Gala.
