Carl Orff: Carmina burana

The pairing of a concert piece by Béla Bartók and Carmina burana by Carl Orff is not new to Prague Symphony Orchestra. In 2011, a similar combination was chosen by the orchestra under the baton of the then chief conductor Jiří Kout. Instead of a concerto for two pianos and percussion, this time we opted for solo violin and Bartók’s First Violin Concerto, which originated out of his great love for the violinist Stefi Geyer. Unfortunately, the love was unrequited, Stefi Geyer did not play the concerto, and in the end the premiere took place after Bartok’s death.

As one of the most frequently performed compositions, Carmina burana needs no comment except that we can look forward to a great cast, including the Norwegian baritone, Audun Iversen. A beautiful end of the season!
