The lady playing Juliet was a fantastic dancer but I felt the rest of the cast were very mediocre.
My Family and I spent a Long Weekend in Parg beginning of August. The Opera was closed because of summer vacation. So we decided to book the ballett Romeo and Julia in the Hybernia Theatre.
The theatre is not as modern but the ballett was fantastic. The dancers did a great Performance!! And we loved it.
The Music is from a Recorder, but the Quality of Sound is very good.
We enjoyed a lot the ballett and would book it again.
It was my first ballet and it was fabulous.
There are two accidents occurred during the ballet show. The backdrop didn't functioned well in the 2nd act so we need to wait almost for 5-10 mins. At the 3nd act, the terrace over the backdrop was suddenly falling down, hence the ballet dancer (Juliet) was dropping from the terrace to the floor. All of the audience were scared. We worried about the status of the dancer. We had been waiting almost in 15 mins without any announcement. During that time, we wondered whether we should be leaving or keep waiting. After waiting for 5 mins more, the curtain of the stage was suddenly opened and the dancer standing on stage. We then continue to watching the show Fortunately the dancer didn't injured.
The stage was very small which resulted in what felt like the dancers “holding back” their performances in order to fit the small space. This was especially evident when the chorus of dancers was performing on stage at one time. I was disappointed.
Romeo and Juliet, the ballet by Prokoviev, at the Hybernia Theatre was a wonderful production, with just excellent performances by both the leading dancers and the company. The dancers playing the two lovers, as well as Mercutio and TybaLt were very good at injecting comedy as well as romance and finally pathos in their roles.
It is only the second time I have been to the ballet so I am certainly not an expert, but personally I enjoyed it very much. I understood the story the ballet was trying to tell. The venue was quaint. The performers were excellent. Very impressed and I would recommend to others.
