History of the Brewery U Medvidku
U Medvidku brewery was founded in 1466 and it ranks among the oldest known breweries in Europe. The brewery was named after one of its first owners Jan Medvidek. U Medvidku brewery sticks to the original medieval procedures of beer production which also include beer fermentation in wooden barrels. This brewery belongs to one of the smallest ones in the Czech Republic; a maximum annual sales volume is 300 hectoliters of the 13 degrees semi dark lager called OLDGOTT which belongs to local specialities. You can taste the OLDGOTT as a part of the Brewery Tour.
Meeting point is at the entrance door to brewery. You will start with 1 large beer from U Medvidku Brewery – draft Oldgott 13° or a Semi Dark Lager 13° (0,5l). Savour the unique atmosphere and feel the old times when tasting this delicious beer. Then the guide takes you to the cellar where you can taste 10 different beers and see the unique preparation of this delightful drink. This brewery uses the traditional methods to create the beer. You will also have the opportunity to taste traditional Czech beer snacks – pickled cheese marinated in oil and beer, or homemade pork-crackling spread, both served with bread.
