Marionette version of W.A. Mozart´s opera Don Giovanni has become the most successful piece of the Czech marionette theatres since the Velvet Revolution in 1989.
The marionette theatre in Prague is situated at the historical centre of the world’s puppetry, in a place, where was established the International Puppetry Organisation -UNion Internationale de la MArionnette - UNIMA,associated with UNESCO.
Since 1991, the National Marionette Theatre has staged more than 6.000 performances and 20 premieres of traditional puppet performances for both adults and children. Don Giovanni was performed more than 4500 times!.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his Don Giovanni specially for Prague. This famous opera was premiered in 1787, at the Prague Estates Theatre and conducted by Mozart himself.
The National Marionette Theatre presents this exceptional opera in a unique version of the classic puppet theater, with stage performance marionettes in stylish costumes.
This production celebrates Mozart's time and environment in the form of authentic 18th century. Performance is played in Prague in a unique Art Deco space and is staged in the original Italian language lasting about two hours. For Don Giovanni opera puppet show, recorded music is used.
Please note that the performance has 15 minutes an intermission.

An offer for clients interested in having an individual photograph session with all the puppets of the Don Giovanni production in the theatre space of the National Marionette Theatre. You will need to use your own camera.

Make Your Own Marionette Workshop:
puppet making for both individuals and groups (number not limited ) in the theatre club. The workshop takes place under the supervision of an experienced visual artist. The client may choose a puppet out of 15 types of traditional Czech marionettes. Each puppet is about 25cm and fully functional. The workshop also includes a demonstration of operating finished puppets in a traditional family theatre set. Clients may create their own sets in the theatre portal and their own scene designs.
